Pasture, Rangeland and Forage (PRF) losses from dry and hot conditions are common and frequent in many areas across the county . The PRF rainfall index is an excellent tool for producers to utilize to help offset losses, caused by dry conditions, by providing them with additional income. Growers select coverage based on rainfall averages dating back to 1948 and intervals are set up in two month terms based off of the historical data. If the accumulated rainfall is below the coverage level selected, then you will receive an indemnity payment. The producer may elect to protect from 70-90% of the average rainfall and may also select between 60-150% multiplier for an established hay or grazing value set by each county.
